Operation Climb On - Saturday June 2, 2018 Event
Operation Climb On held an event at Petzel on Saturday, June 2nd. The event was focused on bringing veterans together and finding more interested climbers to join with Operation Climb On for future climbs. Their focus is to build camaraderie and trust while climbing outdoors. To learn more about them check out this video: https://liverad17.squarespace.com/config/
There were other veteran groups represented at the event including: UT Dept. of Veteran Affairs, Canines for a Cause, Flagpoles for a Cause, Team Rubicon, Alpha Coffee, Fit to Recover, and others.
Saturday’s event was named in memory of Matt, who would have benefited from association with OCO’s awesome team if he’d had the chance. Our family and friends wholeheartedly believe Matt would have supported their mission so we we’re humbled and appreciative that they would include us in the event. We won’t ever know if it would’ve saved Matt from suicide, but we saw the positive impact climbing and the climbing community had on Matt at the end of his life. Even if there was only one veteran who learned about OCO because of this event - then it will have been a success!
Many of us wore our wristbands while we climbed and met with others. We represented LiveRad at Matt’s table with mission statement & free wristbands! A big THANK YOU to all of our friends who joined us and remembered Matt.
Here are just a few pictures from the event. It was so cool to climb at a world class facility while also associating with these awesome veterans and friends.
