This stirring photo was taken on Memorial Day 2018. During the third inning of the baseball game there was recognition of the POW-MIA Chair of Honor. This chair always sits empty in remembrance of the soldiers who were prisoners of war or declared missing in action. As part of the reverent ceremony, a US Marine Corps Jr ROTC student stood in the rain next to the chair. Shortly after, a fan unexpectedly stood and quietly held his umbrella to protect him from the rain. The caption of the photo posted on Twitter by the Atlanta Braves simply said, “Respect.” #liverad #inspiringkindness #wecanalldosomething #whatwillyoudo #makeadifference #serve #giveback #compassion #sharegoodness #patriotism #respect #veterans #POW #MIA #chairofhonor

Sam, 19 years old, was working at Ace Hardware in Mississippi when Milton, an elderly veteran came into the store. Milton wanted to buy a shovel and explained that he had to bury his dog of 15 years. He’d also been recently diagnosed with cancer. Sam was touched and offered to come to Milton’s house after work to help him bury his companion. Sam recalls, “His eyes opened wide. It was amazing. He said, ‘I can’t let you do that. Are you sure?’ I said, ‘I’m positive. As soon as I’m off work, I’ll head right over’." Sam did as he promised and helped Milton bury his beloved dog. "Something he said stuck with me," Sam said. "He told me that great things come to you at unexpected times and we both smiled. Definitely something we will both remember. He asked me if there was anyway he could repay me and I told him 'yeah, by taking a picture with me’ because I know that picture is something I will cherish forever.” #liverad #inspiringkindness #wecanalldosomething #whatwillyoudo #giveback #serve #makeadifference #sharegoodness #bethegood #motivationalwednesday #acehardware #dog #veteran #greatthings

Operation Climb On held an event at Petzel on Saturday, June 2nd. The event was focused on bringing veterans together and finding more interested climbers to join with Operation Climb On for future climbs. Their focus is to build camaraderie and trust while climbing outdoors. To learn more about them check out them out at @op_climb_on
There were other veteran groups represented at the event including: UT Dept. of Veteran Affairs, Canines for a Cause, Flagpoles for a Cause, Team Rubicon, Alpha Coffee, Fit to Recover, and others.
Saturday’s event was named in memory of Matt, who would have benefited from association with OCO’s awesome team if he’d had the chance. Our family and friends wholeheartedly believe Matt would have supported their mission so we we’re humbled and appreciative that they would include us in the event. We won’t ever know if it would’ve saved Matt from suicide, but we saw the positive impact climbing and the climbing community had on Matt at the end of his life. Even if there was only one veteran who learned about OCO because of this event - then it will have been a success!
Many of us wore our wristbands while we climbed and met with others. We represented LiveRad at Matt’s table with mission statement & free wristbands! A big THANK YOU to all of our friends who joined us and remembered Matt.
Here are just a few pictures from the event. It was so cool to climb at a world class facility while also associating with these awesome veterans and friends.
