Jacqueline Nytepi Kiplimo is an elite Kenyan marathoner with an impressive record of accomplishments. In 2010 during the Zhengkai International Marathon in China she ran alongside a Chinese athlete who was suffering from dehydration mid-race. Since this Chinese runner didn’t have arms below the elbows he couldn’t grab the water bottles being handed out along the race. Jacqueline ran alongside him from about mile 6 until mile 24 until she felt like he could finish on his own. This slowed her time and she came in 2nd place in a race that she would’ve likely won. Not only did it cost her the victory, but also the $10,000 cash prize. If you had a chance to win a marathon would you give that up to help a stranger?
